CDC Launches Marquette University’s Natural Family Planning Site
Whether trying to prevent or achieve pregnancy, Natural Family Planning (NFP) is a widely used, church-endorsed family planning method based heavily on the monitoring of a number of biological indicators.
The Marquette Model (MM) system of NFP was developed by nurses and physicians at Marquette University to make monitoring easier for couples by incorporating a fertility monitor and clearly educating couples on the biological indicators. It has proven so successful (demonstrating a 97-98% efficacy in avoiding pregnancy), that Marquette wanted to make this information available online and enhance the effectiveness and ease-of-use of the program by providing couples with a state-of-the-art charting/monitoring tool that makes it even easier for them to determine fertile periods.
Catral Doyle worked with Marquette to not only organize all of the educational information about NFP to create a user-friendly, informative site, but also to develop this custom charting tool, incorporating all of the variables and indicators required to determine fertility.
The informational portion of the site has officially launched to the public and the one-of-a-kind charting tool is under thorough testing with nearly 100 couples using it daily to monitor and track their biological signals. Once data can be gathered on the success of couples using the tool, the the online charting tool will become available to the public.
